Some Odd Girl Challenge-Recipe 11-27-11

Ok, 2 post in one day, I know, unheard of..but I simply couldn't wait.

It's been forever (or maybe longer) since I've participated in a challenge. Well, I've stumbled across this great line of stamps. I can't believe I didn't find them sooner. Anyway, so they do challenges on the blog. This week it's a recipe challenge.

The blog is Some Odd Girl Blog, and the stamps are adorable! I got mine on Friday, which is why I wanted to get this up today, to enter the challenge. So here we go!

The recipe is: 2 pattern papers + colored cardstock base (NO KRAFT OR WHITE BASE) + buttons + punch/die cut = your card.
It has to include everything, but can have more, so my recipe was:
3 patterned papers: from MME 12 Days of Christmas paper pack
Colored cardstock base: Pool party, from Stampin' Up
Buttons: from my giant stash, that I will never use up..I'm glad I got to use a few here!
Die cut: I used Labels 4 from Spellbinders
I used the image and sentiment from Tree Trimming Kaylee

I couldn't wait to get coloring. This just might make me enjoy making Christmas cards.

I used some of the paper scraps on the inside.

This makes 3 cards down, and 17 to go. Look for several more Some Odd Girl Christmas cards coming to a blog near you.

Fall Flower Birthday Card

Wow! Has it been a busy week! We hosted our first successful Thanksgiving at our house. Thursday night we went to my sister's house to be with my dad's family. We had a good time. It was nice to see everyone, and to play with baby Brooklyn.

Thursday we had my family over. It ended up being 15 people total. The turkey was perfect! I was very nervous about cooking one. My mom and KTO were a great help, and I couldn't have done it without them. I also couldn't have done it without my awesome husband and his awesome cleaning skills!

So I promised this earlier this week, so here it is.

A birthday card for my mommy.

I used paper from the paper pack Affinity by the Paper Studio. I am in love with it. The ribbon is Stampin' Up! and just happened to match the paper and flowers...which is from the same product line.

I used paper from the front on the inside.

Jonathan and I took her to dinner for her birthday. It was a good time.

Another thing that we accomplished this weekend, we got the trees up. We have 3 this year. A 7.5 foot, a 6 foot and a 4 foot. Each one is different, but has it's own theme. I'm planning to show you, but I need to have a nice day with some good light for the living room before that can happen.

What I will be showing you though, is more cards. I have 1 complete ready for posting, and I'm working on another...the stuff is all over my desk. I have to go, so I can finish it :-)

A Frosty Holiday Card

Oh it must be a Christmas miracle..

I've got the 2nd Christmas card today.

And as you might have guessed, it's blue! Blondes look good in blue. You'll be happy to know I'm currently working on a red and green card...I might finish it tomorrow..or not.

I used my Cuttlebug to cut out the ovals, and to emboss the snowflakes under the ribbon. I added Stickles to her boots and the snow. And more bling for her earrings.

I kept the inside similar to the outside.

I think it turned out pretty good...but winter blue cards are easy.

I'm not having such luck with the next card.

2 down, 18 to go!

Fluffles Ornament Card

So I know that 2 posts in 2 days doesn't really make up for a complete lack of posts for 2 weeks, but hey, I'm trying here.

As I said yesterday, I've got 20 Christmas cards on my plate this year. Well it's going to be particularly difficult because I don't really like making Christmas cards...I don't like the color red..and I definitely don't like it with green. I like blue though, and frosty winter stuff, so there's going to be quite a bit of that. You've been warned.

And since this is going to be difficult, I'm going to take all the help I can get. I happened to have made a card last year that I never sent. Well waste not want not...so I'm going to use it this year.

Oh Fluffles! I love him. I'd bet that there will at least be a few more Fluffles cards coming this year. See, blue. I like blue.

Christmas is also the time I usually have to visit my Copic markers. I've gotten out of practice that's for sure. I made another card last night (maybe I'll post it this weekend) and my coloring is better than it used to be..but no where near as good as I'd like it to be.

I think this was one of the first cards I shot with my new camera.

Team Rodgers is going to be very busy in the next week. (I'm going to try really hard to get that other Christmas card up here..I've got a birthday card too, but that can't go up until Tuesday) I'm working this weekend, and we're hosting Thanksgiving. So this means that my days off will be filled with cooking and prepping..and sadly, not cardmaking. We're attending a turkey day on Thursday, hosting on Friday, then on Saturday and Sunday we'll be doing damage control and putting up our Christmas Trees. Trees. Yeah, as in more than one. More like 3, Mr. Christmas will be so happy this year.

So this is me apologizing if we have no time to come up for air this week.

Enjoy your turkey!

A Leafy Birthday Card

I've been a bad bad blogger.

I don't really have an excuse..it's been gloomy, and I'm tired.

I did make a birthday card for my father-in-law, his birthday was last week.
I apologize for the picture quality, they're worse than usual..that guy I live with took these because the light was terrible the night I finished the card, so he took it the next morning.

I love fall..since it's a fall birthday, I used fall colors.

I made the leaves. I painted watercolor paper, stamped and cut out the leaves then I used extra thick embossing powder, so they're like leaf chips. I think they're cool.

I have another birthday card done, I just need some good light to take a photo of it (hoping for a light box for Christmas this year...)
And then I've agreed to make 20 Christmas cards for my mother this year...so look for those coming to a blog near you.

**An Oliver Update**
He's doing great, thanks for everyone who's been concerned. This Tuesday was 4 weeks post surgery. His fur is slowly (I mean really slowly) growing back in. His incisions are healed. He's using both legs, but he still definitely prefers the left leg to the right. The vet clinic called last week to ask about him, and I asked them about the leg preference, and they said so far that was fine. He is in fact using it more than he was last week, so we're watching for more and more improvement over the next few weeks. His recheck appointment is December 14th, which is 8 weeks and 1 day post surgery. We're hoping for full activity status by then. Not that we don't love carrying him around, but it's starting to be a real hassle. Full activity status is important, because he's bored to death, and because Cora is coming soon (more on that later).

Baby Cameron Card

Today I bring you one of my favorites..I love making baby cards. I've also decided this will be my sort of tradition. It started with Baby Jack and his card here. I've since decided to make a card with the baby's name on it for the parents, or the baby book, or whatever.

So my friend Lauren at work just had a baby. They didn't find out the gender beforehand..which drove me absolutely crazy!! They ended up having a little boy named Cameron, and he's really cute.

This is Cameron's card. His mom loves monkeys and she decorated the nursery in several colors to keep it sort of gender neutral.

Monkey! Courtesy of my Cricut, and Gypsy. The Gypsy really made cutting out the letters on different colored paper easy. It should have made cutting a monkey of the right size easy...but alas..I ended up with 3 monkeys before I got it right.

I used the same star paper on the inside.

I had this card done last week but I had to make sure it got to where it was going before I put it on here.

I still have a birthday card to show..and one or two to make.

Stay tuned.

It's Not Too Late For Halloween

I'm a bad blogger...and I know Halloween has come and gone, but I had one more card to post.

I think any card that you can use a rat stamp has got to be a winner.

I sent this one to a fellow 'lab rat'.

Complete with one really big spider on the inside.

I got off early on Halloween so I got to be home to hand out candy to the trick or treaters. We had some, I don't think it was quite as many as last year. They seemed to wrap it up around 8:30 or so, since it was a school night. Oliver hates trick or treaters. It sends him into another dimension that they are close to the house, ringing the doorbell, and to top it off they take our candy! He simply can't stand it.

I can't believe it's November already. Turkey day is just around the corner, and to make that even more daunting, I'm hosting my mother's side of the family, and hopefully Jonathan's family as well. I'm terribly nervous! It should be a good time, but I don't know how to cook a turkey! Then Christmas is just a few short weeks after...where has this year gone?

A small Oliver update:
He's doing well. His wounds are almost all the way healed, his butt fur is slowly growing back in. He's pretty much acting like nothing happened. He wants to run and play so badly, but he can't yet. We're having our recheck appointment at MU in December, so hopefully all has gone well and he'll be cleared for activity then. I really hope so, because he's gonna love to play in the snow this year. The only thing is, he's still limping on the right leg, we're hoping that he'll "grow" out of it, they did do a ton of work on his knees..so we're hopeful.

That's pretty much it. I have a few cards on deck, and at least 1 set to be made...so hopefully I get to them soon.
