The Hole Incident

We interrupt our regularly scheduled program to bring you "The Hole Incident".

I mentioned that the studio could benefit from some more lighting, and inquired about how difficult it would be. The electrical engineer jumped on this..and said that he'd check but didn't think it'd be a problem. He wanted to drill in the attic to see if there was an open space above my desk (which has its own roof line..it sort of juts out the back of the house..like a bay window..but not.) Ok so this should have been my first red flag..but I said ok (like an idiot.)

My sister was over and we were working on a project of hers (read: working at the desk) Jonathan was drilling in the attic. It was sounding horrible. Just as I had the thought "Hmm that drilling is sounding awfully close..." CRASH..or something like it...

This happened. I didn't think to get a picture of just the hole before it was patched, but you can see the problem...a random hole in the ceiling. Oh yeah, and all sorts of plaster on my desk.
There were words exchanged (not nice ones) and lots of cleaning on his part. He decided that he shouldn't have done whatever he was doing up there (really?) But that there is in fact a space above the desk and that we could install some lighting.

He could hardly wait to get started. So on Sunday we went and picked out a fixture and got the tools to do the job.

This is a room that has too much stuff in it...
Oh yeah, and it's night time..and we didn't have any power. Which I suppose is a blessing because electrocution doesn't sound like a good time.

That's the beginnings of a 5 inch hole for the fixture...the first hole was almost right...almost. The anxiety was at an all time high here...you can't come back from a 5 inch hole in a plaster ceiling...you just can't.

At least this story has a happy ending. Except for the patching that needs to be finished on the first "mistake" hole.

JRo Productions now has a kick ass light fixture above the desk.

Yes, admiring his work.

But it beats the pants off the light that was available before..crafting after hours was miserable.

I do have a few more things to bring you, and we'll return to your regular programming tomorrow.

Baby Boy Sail Boat Card

So the card I have for today, and the one for tomorrow (ha maybe!) are a bit more simple than what I usually do, but then I think my style has been changing lately. Or maybe I'm becoming multi-styled..its a word. And I think that is way better than being only uni-styled...also a word.

Our real estate agent and his wife just had a baby about a week ago, so I made this card for them. (if your looking for one, I highly recommend this guy)

They had a baby boy, and I don't know much about their nursery or anything, so I tried to keep it pretty generic. And I like sail boats for little boys...so that's what I did.

This thing as more pop dots on it than is probably normal...but who cares. I used my Cuttlebug for the dark blue layer. The Cricut did the hard work of cutting out the little boat. I rounded all the corners because the cut our from the Cricut is rounded...and it's for a baby, sharp corners are dangerous.

I don't really have that many baby stamps, but this is one I do have..and really like. (you might see it again..don't be surprised.) It's a 2 step stamp, the set has lots of sayings, but this one was obviously the best.

It's Friday, and I've never been happier. We have no plans. I hope to get to the 3 C's. Cooking, cleaning, and my personal favorite, crafting.

Enjoy your weekend

Is It Spring Yet?

So I'm sitting in my craft room..which is about 20 degrees colder than the rest of the freezing house, because a certain furry someone likes to ruin my things and I have to keep the door closed now...and I decided I'm tired of all this snow and freezing temperatures. I thought I'd post a spring-ish card that I made last week.

I'm hoping mother nature will take the hint...

I bought this springy paper last fall (not sure why) and haven't had a chance to use it. I know spring is a long way off, but a girl can dream right?

The stamp is from All That Scraps and I colored it with Copic markers.

And stickles...spring=stickles. (and summer, and fall, and winter...)

The paper had some distressing on it, so I did the same to the card base.

I've still got more to post, and I'm trying to drag it out so I don't look like a slacker..but hey it's almost Friday and I don't think we have any plans for the weekend. That means craft time. Woot!

Birdcage Thank Yous

I ended up with a lot of time to scrap this weekend. It's because I have a good husband..and he benefited directly, while I was scrapping he and Oliver were playing video games...well Jon was playing video games, and Oliver was sleeping, because he's useless.

It always seems that when I need to send someone a thank you note I never have one, then I have to hurry and make one. I've been meaning to make myself a little stash..and that's just what I've finally managed to do.

I scrap-lifted this design from a YouTube video I saw by Chick-n-scratch. I love this stamp set and haven't used it much..but now that I'm on a roll all my cards might have these birds on them. I used the SU! In-colors along with Early Espresso.

I had this Thank You stamp that I bought and also haven't had much use for it...it doesn't really fit well on the usual style of card I make..but I think it's perfect for these. The stamp set has a few different cages and also some other birds. It has an owl too..and I love owls.

I was really happy with how these turned out. And I'm really happy that I won't have to rush next time I need a thank you note.

I still have some stuff up my sleeves, some of it might have to wait until I mail it out..but we'll see.

Have a good Monday.

Hey Cupcake!

It seems like we've been really busy lately. There is still an obscene amount of snow on the ground. Ollie the Snow Monster loves it, I hate it. My kitchen floor is a disaster from the wet paws and shoes. As I'm sure some of you know I can't drive if there is any snow on the street, so I've been getting lots of rides to work the past 2 weeks...it's nice, and a pain all at the same time.

Speaking of time, I've made some for crafting.

I got some new stamps/punches from Stampin' Up! and this is what I made with them...

A cupcake card. The stamp stamps the color..duh. And the punch punches it out..again obvious. But that's why there is a white edge to the cupcakes. The punch also has a candle, a cherry and sprinkles. You could just punch solid cardstock and mix and match all the colors, and that would be cute too...but I like to stamp.

I used my Cuttlebug for the dotted background, pop dots for the backs of the cupcakes, and my iRock to set the rhinestones. The ink colors are So Saffron, Bashful Blue, and Pretty in Pink...the brown is Early Espresso.

The sentiment is from the same cupcake set. So is the candle, I used markers to color the stem and the flame.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It's a birthday card. It was so easy to make I might end up with an entire fleet of them..and I don't even like cake. Go figure.

I have some other photos waiting in the wings, some crafty, and some of the SnowMonster. This means that I should have regular blogging for a few days..maybe.

Oliver and The Snow

Today I have a couple of videos to share.

As you know, there is a lot of snow on the ground, and I hate it. But, the only thing that makes it worth it is the fact that Oliver loves it, and is very very cute.

So Jon recorded these yesterday.

Hope everyone else had as much fun with the snow as Oliver did.

100th Episode Celebration!

This post marks the 100th episode of The Jessica Rabbit Show. I hope the few of you that do, will continue to tune in as I work my way to 200 posts. This year should be an interesting one hopefully full of things I can post about...(think spring house projects)

But for today, I have another birthday card.

This one was for my mother-in-law. Her birthday was New Year's Eve...so I'm a touch late getting it up here...but oh well.

Jonathan chose the paper, and I took it from there. I really like how it turned out, and since we haven't seen the in-laws, I hope she liked it too.

I cut the white circle and stamped a flower stamp randomly around the edges. Then I added a bit more ink around the circle and some stickles. Which I'm happy to see that you can tell it's sparkly in the photo.

I kept the inside similar, and wrote in terrible handwriting (this is why I like to stamp) in purple marker. Well technically is Concord Crush and it's supposed to match the ink..but it's a few shades darker, but it gets the point across.

That's all I've got for now. I've got a lot of scrapbook pages to catch up on, so I'm not sure what the next installment will be...
But it will be right here..

Same Bat-time, same Bat-channel.

Today is Your Birthday...

Today is my little sister's birthday, she's 18 today..and I feel OLD!

Her new favorite color is purple, so that was the inspiration for the card I made for her.

It really started with the flowers. They came from Hobby Lobby. So did the brads in the center. I bought patterned paper to match, and the cardstock is Stampin Up. I used my Cricut to cut the swirlies, and I used my iRock to put the tiny rhinestones on them.

I popped the flowers up with pop dots.

I used all the same stuff on the inside..I'm not sure what I'm going to write..I should get to work on that...

I've got one more card to post, but it's still on my memory card..so that will have to wait until tomorrow.
