Wedding Anniversary #2

I've got a pretty picture heavy post today. I've been busy working on things for our second wedding anniversary, which was yesterday October 18th.

We decided that we would participate in giving the traditional wedding anniversary gifts, because it would be more challenging. The first anniversary gift is paper, which you think would be easy, but I've got a cheater on my hands. He gave me a Kindle (which I love)...electronic paper..funny right? So this year we had a long chat about not cheating. The second anniversary gift is cotton. I did get some things made of cotton, but I also got a iPod dock that lights up and charges my iPod (also love it!) however..it is in no way made of cotton. Big. Fat. Cheater.

I had some help with my idea this year (thanks mom!) So here's what I did.

I made this card, it's a secret message card..but more on that in a few.

I used the broken glass technique on the front panel. And lot and lots of sponged edges.

When you open it you can see the first message.

Then here's the secret part.

Then some magic happens...(I had to take this picture out since you could read what I wrote..and this being a secret message card and all it was really only meant for my husband...watch Dawn's video to see how it works. It's totally awesome and I plan to make several more of these)

You can open it the other way to show a different message. It's really pretty cool. The idea and how to came from Dawn's Stamping Studio of course.

But this is what took the longest. It goes in a shadow box, it's like a scrapbook page, but instead of paper, I used cotton fabric! My mom ordered some cotton seeds for me.

I went and picked out a bunch of fabric that I thought went together, and when I got home I saw that this one had a cute boy and girl holding hands! I just had to use that part.

I printed a picture of cotton and put the seeds on a little wax paper pouch.

I'd never seen cotton seeds, they're really fuzzy. I have some extra in case anyone is interested in growing their own cotton.

It's been a really busy weekend. But now I have a whole year to think about what to do for our third anniversary...which is leather.

It's my Friday today since I have to work this weekend. I have some more exciting pictures to bring you..it's Halloween time and that means dressing our poor animals up in costumes..more on that later this week.

A Fluffles Halloween

I do believe this is my last Halloween card..I hope I haven't forgotten anyone..if I did, sorry.

I've been trying to work on my scrapbooks some. It's been a year since our vacation, and the book isn't done. It's embarrassing. I've started on our Year 2 of marriage book, since that too is coming to a close in just a short week and a half. I'll never catch up..why? Well it's because I make Halloween cards...

But it's my favorite, so here we go.
It's Fluffles of course! This one is pretty simple. The cardstock is Concord Crush from SU! and the spiderweb paper is from a Basic Grey paper pack I've had for a while.
The drippy slime punch is Martha Stewart. It's green paper with green stickles on it.

On the bottom it says "Wild broom rides 5 cents" It's from a stamp set from All That Scraps.
The inside is plain for now, that's why there's no picture.

I hope everyone is having a good Friday. I'm looking forward to the weekend, hopefully lots of craft time. Somehow I doubt it. Oliver has puppy class, and my sister is coming over for study help. And we're going to the Ren Fest on Sunday..woo hoo. It's pet weekend so we're taking Oliver. It should be fun. Look for pictures soon.

Oliver at 15 Weeks

Because it's impossible to see enough pictures of my adorable dog, I have brought you another installment of Oliver pictures.

He's about 15 weeks in these.

We went to the park last weekend. I think it's about 1.5 miles around the track. He was very tired. We're trying to take him up there more because he's afraid of people and other dogs, well sort of. If someone reaches down to pet him, then he's totally fine. He would just stop on the path if someone was running, walking or biking toward us.

A boy and his dog. This is one of my new favorites.

Oliver can get on the couch if someone is sitting on it to push the cushions down a bit. Bean does not like this. It won't be too much longer before he can get up there any time he wants. Then nobody will like it.

But how can you not like that face.

Chewing on some sort of stick or acorn or something.

He had his first puppy class last week. He's going to be the star student. Even though there is only one other puppy. Julia, the standard poodle. He doesn't care for her very much. He can already sit, stay(mostly), lay down, and we started working with the hula hoop today. What we really wanted was more interactions with other dogs..and for him to get practice paying attention...which is only a sometimes thing for him right now.

We started getting out the Halloween decorations..and you know what that means..soon to be all my babies dressed up. For the purpose of photo opportunities. Ha ha.

A Haunted House Card

So as promised, a day late..but that's besides the point. I have another Halloween card for you.
This one I was really excited about. I completely cased it from a tutorial that Dawn at Dawn's Stamping Studio did. You can see it here. And for a first attempt I don't think it's too bad.

The background is "watercolored" and the house image is embossed. I have big plans for this technique. The possibilities are endless..but probably most of them will involve this house. I love love love Halloween. It is most definitely my favorite holiday.

You can see the house a little better here. Since the watercolor paper is textured it's difficult to get a good transfer when yous stamp on it. In Dawn's video she gives a good idea to help with this, which I tried..but I think I have a better idea and next time I'll try it and see if it works better. This card was a ton of fun and I can't wait to get some more colors to "watercolor" with.

Today is my Friday, and that means 3 day weekend. Tomorrow night we're going to a Ray-Pec football game to see my sister in the band. Hopefully we get to the park a few days, and hopefully I can scrap scrap scrap.

A Broken Glass Halloween Card

Today was my day off after working the weekend..and I was so looking forward to it. Of course it never goes as planned. I like sleeping in, had to get up early for a chiropractor appointment that we had to bump to make room for Jonathan's doctors appointment in the afternoon. (he has what we suspect to be gout, the labs aren't back yet...yes 28 years old, with gout) Awesome! A little tutoring, and finally a little scrapbooking.

This is what I made today..and I think it is awesome!


That image is from a Stampin Up stamp set. I used a brayer (which sucks, that I will be taking back and getting a different one) to roll the background. The inks are Rich Razzleberry and Cajun Craze..also Stampin Up. I stamped it in black over the background, and you probably can't tell but I took a little bit of a white gel pen to some of the highlighted areas..

But the best part is the cracked glass technique! It's about 5 layers of thick embossing powder, which gives it a really cool look, but once it's cooled you can snap it and it looks like broken glass. Cool right?
I tried to get a better shot of it, but you just can't appreciate it unless you are looking at it in person. It was so easy, and looks so cool I pretty much plan to do everything with this technique from now on.

Oliver and Why Baby Gates are Useless

This is Oliver's new trick..it's mostly used to get to his Chippy cat that he loves so much.







He had Giardia when we went to the vet earlier this week, but now he's being treated. And since he's all better now, my sweet mellow baby is now fired up all the time.

All That Scraps Wednesday Challenge- Janneke's Sketch

It's been a really long time since I've participated in a challenge. It's silly, because I love challenges..and I especially love sketch challenges, so that's what I did today.

One of my favorites is the ATS Wednesday Challenge. And this week is Janneke's sketch...which I like a lot. I love square cards, they're not that much bigger, but I think I have a lot more room to work with.

So I've been working on cranking out the Halloween cards, so my entry is a Halloween card.

Every witch needs sparkly shoes! I've made a couple cards with this set. It's Ollie and Griselda from ATS, of course, that's one of the rules of the challenge. You can see the other card I made last year here. I altered the stamp slightly, but Halloween is really what it's meant for.

I hope this helps you appreciate the sparkles! Last year my Halloween card had green shoes. That was before the blog however, so it's not up here. Use your imagination. It was fabulous.


Here's the inside..and my finger. The sentiment is from the same set. All the patterned paper is from a Basic Grey stack. The cardstock is Elegant Eggplant and Basic Black from Stampin' Up!.

I've got a few more cards to make, I was putting my list of folks to send them to today. If I don't make lists I end up with a serious surplus problem.
